İSTANBUL BEYOĞLU pieris rapae

"Pieris rapae", commonly known as the small white or cabbage white, is a widespread species of butterfly in the family Pieridae. This butterfly is well-known for its pale, creamy-white wings with small black dots on the forewings, which are more pronounced in females than in males. The tips of the forewings may also have a grey or black shading. It's a small to medium-sized butterfly, recognizable by its fluttering flight.

Originating from Europe and Asia, Pieris rapae has since spread to North America and other parts of the world, often becoming a common sight in gardens, fields, and open woodlands. It is particularly noted for its larval stage, where it can be a pest on cultivated cabbages and other brassica crops, hence the name "cabbage white."

Despite its reputation as a pest, the cabbage white plays a role in the ecosystem as a pollinator. It feeds on nectar from a variety of flowers and in doing so, contributes to the pollination of many types of plants.
